Throughout the countries, the costs of health care are poorly small businesses. So much so that only 54% of small businesses offer traditional health care to their workers today. The cost of health care is a huge challenge of small business , leaving desperate homeowners ways to reduce costs while providing a benefit to the health of employees.
Is there a silver lining? Yes. Compared to ten years ago, you have new options to reduce health care costs.
In a recent article, CNBC explored the issue of rising health care costs small business and provided five unorthodox ways to reduce costs. In the article, Zane Benefits founder Paul Zane Pilzer was interviewed to weigh on why small businesses should convert to individual plans (# 3 below). But I'm ahead of myself.
Here is a review of CNBC suggestions on how to reduce the costs of health care, including what I think are the advantages and disadvantages of each option.
5 ways to reduce health costs
1. Negotiate your rate
According CNBC, a way to reduce the costs of health care is to negotiate your group health insurance premium. Small businesses can talk to the insurance company or working with a qualified broker during the annual renewal
more -. For small businesses with health insurance plan small group contract premium at renewal could help reduce the annual cost of health care without disrupting the way health care is offered
Cons -. negotiating rates is temporary. I think there comes a time for most small businesses when the cost of group health insurance is more affordable, or when employees will be able to get a better cheaper coverage on the individual market.
2. SHOP Exchange
The SHOP exchanges provide plans small group health insurance, and provide access to th e small tax credits to corporate health care . Some states offer "employee choice" shots where a small business can set the amount of money he wants to contribute to premiums and allow employees to select from health plans and dental care.
more - small businesses that qualify for small health care tax credits to companies may be able to save on the costs of health care, compared to a traditional plan small group. In addition, small businesses may be able to provide employees with more choice compared to one small group health plan
Cons -. The small business tax health care is limited - some small businesses qualify, and it can only use a maximum of two years. In addition, many small businesses find the choices very limited plans in their state.
3. Convert to individual plans
According to CNBC, another way to save on the cost of health care is to be converted to individual plans. To always provide benefits, employers can reimburse employees for their premium.
"Every employer with fewer than 50 employees should offer money to buy individual plans with respect to group plans," according to Paul Zane Pilzer, author of the book. "The end of Medicare employer-provided: Why it's good for you, your family and your business," and Founder of Zane Benefits, a firm in Murray, Utah
"employers can do so by giving an increase or allocation or setting up a repayment plan under current federal rules, says Pilzer. Repayment plans operate under the principle "Buy health insurance; show me the receipt ;. I'll pay you "
more - As I talk a lot on this blog, individual health insurance is now better and cheaper than group health insurance . It is now guaranteed-issue, portable, and covers essential health benefits in addition, employers can set up a repayment plan or allowance to help with the costs. - where they put any amount they can afford. No negotiations with the insurance company. No minimum requirements of assessment. No unpredictable increase. This gives employees access to health insurance quality, and gives employers complete control of costs and predictability
Cons -. the abandonment of the insurance group health can be difficult for some employees who have come to rely on getting insurance through work. However, a little education goes a long way here. In fact, many employees will pay less out of pocket for the same or better coverage -. Compared to a group health insurance plan
4. Direct Primary Care
According to CNBC, a growing number of care physicians primary are in partnership with employers to offer affordable preventive and primary care on a fixed monthly membership model, in what is known as direct primary care
more -. This approach provides an advantage for the employees, and gives them access to care.
Cons - Direct primary care is not complete coverage and will not help much during a catastrophic illness such as cancer. In addition, employees will still need health insurance coverage to meet the requirement of the Affordable Care Act that all individuals have health insurance.
5. Ministries of health care sharing
As CNBC noted, the Affordable Care Act offers members a "Ministry of health care sharing" recognized exemption from the trouble of having a health insurance coverage. By definition, a care ministry Sharing Center is a nonprofit organization that facilitates the sharing of costs of health care between individual members.
The basic concept is that members donate a monthly amount and then are able to request a grant (or "shares" access) when the medical expenses incurred . There is often a threshold to seek help (eg medical expenses must be more than $ 300 for a request for help)
more -. This approach provides an advantage for the employees, and gives them access to care. Belonging to a health care sharing ministry exempt persons from the charge of individual shared responsibility
Cons -. Sharing ministry of health care is not health insurance. It is a gift to an organization that then provides assistance for medical care. As such, the benefit is limited. In addition, the sharing of ministries of healthcare is faith-based organizations and will not be a fit for each employer.
Conclusion
