How to Get It
- If you are running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or 8.1, and you installed the updated March , take a look at the Windows system tray on the right side of your start bar. You should see an icon that looks like a Windows logo. Hover your cursor on it and it will say "Download Windows 10".
- Click this icon and you get instructions on how to book your free upgrade, as well as information on Windows 10. You will be asked to provide your email address so you can be informed once it has been downloaded to your computer.
- When Windows 10 is available July 29 e , it will be automatically downloaded to your computer, and you will receive an email telling you. You can then choose when actually installing it.
- If you decide to cancel your reservation before July 29 e , you can make it through the same icon "Get Windows 10".
- If you are not eligible for the free upgrade, it will be available for purchase on July 29 e . The Home version will cost $ 119, while the Pro version costs $ 199. But before you spend your money, you must first look in your ability to upgrade to the levels required for the free upgrade.
What's New?
The most noticeable difference with Windows 10 is the office itself. The level difference depends if you're currently running Windows 7 or 8.1. Windows 7 users are accustomed to the traditional desktop PC users while 8.1 were introduced in the "Live Tile" approach. Windows 10 combines the best of both worlds. It starts with the traditional look and feel of Windows 7 (and earlier) office but becomes very different when you click the Start button. You will see the familiar Start menu, with the addition of Live Tiles for a Windows 8.1 design. This can take some getting used to, but it is Microsoft's attempt to satisfy every member of their audience, and I think they did a good job with it.
for Windows 10 will also introduce Cortana. Never heard of Siri? Well, Cortana is the Windows answer to Siri for your personal assistance needs. As long as you have a microphone and speakers, you can interact with it via voice commands. Alternatively, you can type things through the search area.
Another point that Microsoft really is touting Windows 10 ability to recognize the type of device you are using and transforming its display accordingly. The best example of this would be running on a device 2-in-1 that can be used as a laptop or tablet. If you remove the keyboard, you will be asked if you want to switch to a format that is more conducive to a tablet.
Of course, there are a number of other new features and enhancements, too much for me to get here, but there are also some features that will be removed [(whomakesthesedecisions?!)
- Windows Media Center
- the card game "hearts"
- Gadgets Office
As with any new technology, only the time will tell. On the surface, the upgrade to Windows 10 appears to be one of the best efforts of Microsoft and probably even a glance. Do you have additional ideas to share about Windows 10? I would like to hear about them in the comments below!
