Americans move a lot. A Gallup poll in 2013, nearly a quarter of the adult population of the United States has moved in the previous five years. My wife and I are not exempt from this; we are now moving from Nashville, Tennessee to Fort Wayne, Indiana. It is good for us, and we're really excited about it. However, it was not without much anxiety, worry and stress.
Moving to a new town or city is stressful for everyone, even if the movement is a positive change. In large part this is because you uprooting places and familiar people is never easy, and the challenges of adapting to a new local environment are numerous. How will you find your way? How do you make friends? Would you lose all the friends you have made in your old house? Someone sells your favorite mustard? In addition to this you can have doubts - do I really make the right decision? What if I am unhappy here?
Santa Fe, New Mexico-based psychologist and psychotherapist Elizabeth Stirling, Ph.D., specializes in helping people navigate major life changes and offers some simple tips to overcome anxiety and move ease into a new location:
- Think positive. "One of the greatest rewards of movement is that it represents a new beginning and new sensations -. A fresh landscape, new people to meet, perhaps a new and better job "
- Create and use a support system. Do not hesitate to get the support of your good friends to the place you go. good friends will always be there for you.

- Hang pictures on the wall. "If there is one simple thing that can make your new place feel like home right away," Stirling said, "it is to get your favorite pictures on the wall, even before you finish unpacking . " Your favorite and photography art - who you icons and what you like - are the best way to make a new place feel like it's your own
