I used to work in a sales office with an old gentleman named Kenny. It was the greatest. values of the old school, old school manners. A easy guy to live relaxed but smart as a whip. Stories? There were a million of them. He really knew something about everything. It reminded me of my grandfather.
Kenny was a ton of wonderful qualities, but I really enjoyed was that Kenny was a walking storehouse of folk liners. It always made me want to hear what he had to say, because no matter what the topic of conversation, Kenny had a saying appropriate to the situation: "A short pencil beats a long memory"
"There are two kinds of people in life :. people who love their work and the people who no longer work here "
" It's about as handy as a pocket on a shirt back. "
" I used to think I am indecisive, but now I'm not so sure. "
" a person who is all wrapped up in himself makes a powerful little package. "
" It is so dry that the trees are corrupt dogs. "
" This guy was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple! "
one of the less flamboyant but equally true sayings Kenny popped into my mind, the other day when I was talking to a client named Ross. He called to pay his monthly bill and mentioned that his house payment and two car payments were due on the first of the month, according to its auto insurance with us. He made a rough early. I pulled out my Kenny-ism "it costs nothing to ask!" and Ross said, "would it help if we changed your due date?" well, you might have heard his two states away sigh of relief. We changed the date in the middle of the month, and instead of dreading call us every month, Ross breathe easy and smiling when he calls.
as taker or as an agent, or simply as consumers in general, remember: It does not hurt to ask! Sometimes a small change can make a big difference. So go ahead and ask! The price is right and you might be surprised at the results!
I stumbled on Kenny and his wife, Marilyn, just a few weeks. There is still strong and displaying his good humor usual smile. If you're really lucky, you have a Kenny in your life, imparting wisdom, perspective and a laugh, just when you need it most.
