"You'll catch more flies with honey" was a basic expression of the mouth of my mother when I was growing up. He could have been in most of your homes as well. While someone could literally catch more flies using honey as a tool, I embrace the meaning of this word more figuratively and I called this currency in many different situations. I have found over the years that the sense of the term is useful in almost any time in the life of a person.
I especially like to choose to remember this phrase during sticky situations (no pun intended)! Some of the sticking can be those times when you try to deal with a representative the customer service. I have usually remember the saying about two minutes before I lose my temper with the person behind the register at the other end of the phone, or someone who is apparently ignore me behind the desk. In these moments, I take a deep breath, close my eyes, and I say to myself. "Mom looks like I'll catch more flies with honey"
This speech reminds me a little kindness , gentleness and understanding goes a long way in these situations. it also reminds me that just because I may be seeing eye to eye with the customer service worker at this moment, does not mean they are unable to work or out to ruin my day. Maybe they're right. Maybe they just had a race with someone who was very unpleasant for them. Can -being I have not done what I had to do on my end so they can do their job properly.
Valentine's Day is just around the corner. There is absolutely no sweet time to remember the concept to catch more flies with honey. Try soon in your life. Maybe you will be sweeter to someone and square away a difficulty while at the same time. This reminds me of another expression that my mother taught me: But it will have to wait another day
"Kill two birds with one stone."
