When you think of the notion of retirement do you think will be in the workplace and contribute to productivity , right? You may be thinking to achieve your advanced years and focusing on aspects of life other than work, for example, family, hobbies and volunteer work. However, Americans are at a tipping point: most people will continue to work after retirement - and often new and different ways of those they have before
[ Nearly half of all today's retirees say they have either worked or plan to work in retirement. And a percentage even say want to continue working after retirement. Merrill Lynch predicts that it will become increasingly rare that pensioners do not work.
What is the explanation of this phenomenon?
Why on earth would a person work hard for 40-50 years and then reach retirement and want to continue working? Would they not want to focus on other aspects of their lives? Would they not want to give their minds and bodies a break from stress and pressure that goes along with the full-time job?
Nearly three in four pensioners launched a new line of work after retirement, according to Merrill Lynch study, and working pensioners are three times more likely to be entrepreneurs that pre-retirees. This new phenomenon is driven by four forces:
1. The increase in life expectancy , which produced a retirement that may last 20 years or more. People just can not imagine doing "nothing" for the remaining 20 years of their remaining life. Some fear boredom, lack of purpose or meaning in life, and really want to continue to contribute to society in a meaningful way.
2. Recent economic uncertainty , which was an audit of the major reality for many people. For many individuals and couples, their current financial situation is precarious and current lifestyle is unsustainable without additional income. Some find they do not have the sufficient funds in their retirement accounts , or never started a first, and Social Security is not enough money to live. In addition, an unknown financial forecast is disconcerting for people, propelling them to remain in the workforce in some capacity.
3. A new vision for the future life , that pensioners seek greater purpose, social engagement, intellectual stimulation, and achieving the retirement. retirement today is a much more dynamic and fluid process where people reinvent themselves and go through transition phases. For some people find a new outlet for the work is not all about money. Staying active mentally is as important for retirees working as money.
4. Elimination of pensions for many workers , shifting the burden of retirement financing from employers to retirees. Security guarantee thought was attacked and many people have access. Many people take their low-income retirement and / or fixed and they have a real need to work and supplement their income.
Conclusion
As Americans hit the retirement age, many are not opt out of the workforce. Whether they stay in their current jobs, the transition to a new field, or start a business, 40 percent people over 55 continue to work in their years of retirement. Some do it for money, some for personal progress, and some do it for the community contribution.
