Over the past five years, more Americans have acquired the insurance as the previous four decades. The Department of Health and Human Services recently released information about the insured population, indicating that 16.4 million uninsured people previously bought Medicare under the Affordable Care Act. Many more people now have the coverage of quality health care, when they went without nothing for long periods of time. So why has the uninsured rate dropped so dramatically? 
The Affordable Care Act is working
Nearly five years after the passage of the Affordable Care Act almost 16 patient protection and a million and a half people who were previously uninsured have gained health insurance under the law.
"regarding the key indicators of affordability, access and quality, evidence shows that the Affordable Care Act is working, and families, businesses and taxpayers are better off as a result, "said HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell.
With the new law, about 14.1 million people had access to health care since the online exchanges entered into force in October 2013.
