Now that Christmas is over, it's time to start thinking about those resolutions New Year. This year I'm going exercise five days a week. This year I'm going to eat. This year I'll be a better listener. What resolutions do you do for 2014?
What about a resolution to ensure that your PC maintenance schedule is set for the year? Regular maintenance is very important for the performance and security of your PC. Here are some maintenance items to consider:
Cleaning
- rabbits dust can accumulate quickly! Turn off your PC, unplug the power cord and remove the outer casing, then use compressed air or a vacuum cleaner to gently remove dust
- Get rid of all the old files. either delete or copy them to CD. Be sure to move them to the cloud storage.
- Delete cookies, temporary files, cache and history files. Use Disk Cleanup (under Accessories> System Tools on a Windows PC).
- Do not forget your e-mail! Delete any e-mails you need more. And make sure to empty your deleted files and Recycle Bin items.
Back-UPS
- If you have an automated backup process, great! Review and test the process to make sure it works as expected
- If you do not have a back-up automated process -. Make a resolution to create one! (Here are some options.)
software
- Check for updates. If the product has an option Automatic Updates, consider using it to ensure that you are always on the latest version.
- Delete any software you do not use.
operating system
- Consider using the Automatic Updates option if available. Otherwise, be sure to check regularly for updates.
- Check any future support for change. Be prepared for such situations
Security
- Anti-Virus - .. Check for updates, consider all scheduled tasks
- Firewall - review settings, check for updates
- Change your passwords
printer, keyboard, monitor, and other devices
- ..
- Make sure they are clean and that you have the latest drivers / firmware.
