Today ABC News and the Associated Press asked, "revolutionize put the brakes on the cost of health care? "
We think it's a phenomenal question. But just about everyone - on both sides of the aisle - gives the draft health bill a poor rating in terms of cost savings.
"On cost control, this bill moves the ball to the 30-yard line of the opponent, but he does not score," said Democratic Senator Mark Warner.
Gail Wilensky, economist GOP Health, said the current law is "pretty darn pitiful" on cost control.
So why are we not two (fusion versions of the House and Senate bill and the president's signature) to put this into law if it does not do enough? Well, it is how politics works. There is no such thing as a perfect bill, and there never will be.
Reading the latest articles, blogs and editorials, it is clear that reform advocates and critics are missing the point of this whole effort. If we do not approach the health reform at the time of the big picture waste everyone. We must reach an agreement on what we think we can now improve and continue this progress. Because the reform degenerated into a shouting match and smear on both sides, we all doctors, health insurance company, and - most importantly - all, a bad American mass service.
We are all in this together, remember?
First, all accept the reality that Democrats will add or subtract provisions no matter how hard Republicans scream. The Democrats won the last election. It is how a democratic republic like ours works. If the Republicans had a majority in Congress and the White House, they had the same thing.
So why not accept this as the truth and go beyond the small, elementary baloney to come up with some major policy changes that will make a positive difference for everyone. Then, we will continue to build and improve.
sound good?
