USA Today Olympic Picture When most people his age are university graduates and early career, he already understands what it takes to balance the demand for a competitive sport with work requirements. But what many Canadians do not know about our Olympic athletes is the funding they receive is little to nothing. Living like an Olympic athlete is not all glitz and glamor. In fact, Rowley appreciate how difficult and disappointing it can be - especially with the circumstances that are beyond its control. Athletes can train hard and do everything to set them up for success, but when it comes to financial burdens, they have no control. Rowley knows the feeling that comes with missed on sporting events due to financial constraints. Despite working this year he had to spend a trip to the World Championships due to lack of funding. But, like most elite athletes, he continued on.
