Many companies may struggle to comply with laws the reform of health care, and even the industry of health care is feeling the impact. Nursing homes and home care organizations began lobbying Congress to try to get exemptions to provide assurance of health workers or a certain level of coverage.
Why? Well, it is expensive and according to The New York Times one in four members of staff nursing home do not have health insurance, and one in three home care workers are uninsured currently.
US President Health Care Mark Parkinson Association suggests that the government sets rates low for Medicare and Medicaid, which does not provide enough insurance coverage repayment employees. Medicaid currently covers two-thirds of nursing to stay home and just said cut payments to nursing homes because of budget deficits.
Unfortunately, if the nursing homes receive exemptions from the reform, the number of nursing home and home care workers without health insurance will remain the same.
Charlene Harrison of the School of Nursing at the University of California said: "It is scandalous to have nursing home employees who take care of people when they themselves lack coverage and go without care ... If employees have health insurance, you are more to treat disease, less likely to transmit infection to residents of nursing homes and more likely to get early treatment for accidents work ".
But nursing homes would have a really hard time paying more for residents or make extra money to cover the insurance costs.
