Tuesday Tip: Auto Insurance Endorsements Section III - CMSThumbnail-Car-Lot

There are many references there, but let's focus today on a couple that extend the coverage au beyond what is offered in a standard Alberta Auto insurance (SPF 1) policy

SEF 27 - civil liability for damage to non-owned vehicles: this approval at hand, available for a small price most personal and small commercial policies auto insurance provides coverage for damage you do to a vehicle that is not owned by the insured. In general, coverage applies throughout North America, so if you take the car from a friend or rent a car rental company on vacation, you can have coverage through your own policy if you wreck it. This can be very beneficial as it allows you to refuse the insurance offered by the rental agency, which can often be north of $ 20 a day (instead of ~ $ 30-40 per year for 27 SEF). If you rent or borrow vehicles on a semi-regular basis, this rider can be a great value to your car insurance policy

SEF 6c -. Public Passenger Vehicles rider - This rider, commonly known as "carry passengers for compensation" endorsement, is what you should have on your vehicle if you are paid to drive them around. This goes for taxis, shuttles, and especially the fast-growing companies "Ride-sharing" as Uber and Lyft. If you are carrying passengers for hire, and do not have this endorsement, your policy of car insurance will most likely be found completely empty in the case of an accident, leaving you on the hook for not only repairs to your vehicle but also all damage and injury to third parties. These costs and legal fees can easily reach hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars, so if you want to be paid for the conduct of people, make sure that you are properly protected. An insurance broker can help you determine the insurance coverage for your use and exploitation "

What is the difference between a vacant unit vs unoccupied housing

What is the difference between a vacant unit vs unoccupied housing - SetRatioSize640640-Vacant-Home

Your home insurance: what is the difference between a vacant home vs a vacant dwelling? And why is it important?

Keep your up-to-speed broker with changes in your life can save you from stress (and perhaps money) on your insurance. If you are a bird snow or someone who travels for work (either back to Fort McMurray or around the world), you have to let your broker know. Or if you sold your house and moved into another home, but have kept your previous home, keeping your broker in the loop will help ensure that you have adequate cover in place with regard to your situation and possible risks.

What is an unoccupied dwelling?

  • A housing you intend to return to

For example :. Someone who leaves their home to Calgary to spend three months in Arizona - their home would be considered an occupied dwelling. Even if they are out of town, they always intend to return after three months. (* Your home is considered vacant if left for more than 96 hours.

What is a "vacant housing"?

  • a housing in which you have no intention of returning to (regardless of the presence of the furnishings)

for example :. If you bought a home and relocated . it but still did not sell your home first because you have no intention of returning to the first residence, it is considered a "vacant housing," notes: .. staging a home is not considered occupied and will not change that status

Here are some steps you should take before you travel (unoccupied dwelling): ..

  • Call your broker and inform them of your Plans
  • Remember to turn water off and drainage pipes
  • Do your best to make the house more occupied - have someone check your mail and shovel your walk and / or mow the grass
  • have someone check your house daily (each insurance company has different requirements, but once a day should cover you!)

If you are someone who made a trip north, chances are you're out of your home more than 96 hours at a time. Once you've gone over 96 hours, your home is considered an unoccupied property. With a work schedule and lifestyle as it is probably annoying to shut off the water and drain pipes every two weeks (depending on your rotation.) Moreover, the alternative to hire someone to come and check on the place can be expensive. Something you may not know that some insurance companies will install an alarm house that has a temperature sensor and water, so you would not need someone to check on your home at all. It is important to mention is that the alarm system must be secure call center and you should always have a local point of contact if something happens and you're out of town.

Remember that as you told your broker you are away and have done our best to ensure that your property is taken care of, you can travel without worry or concern.

Here are some steps you should take if you have a vacant unit:

  • To obtain a "license Vacancy" from your insurance company
  • rating: there is little coverage on the house when it is considered vacant. They would not be covered by vandalism, glass, water or sewer backup damage, even if the vacancy has been grated permission (adding a vacancy permit). And most insurance companies still require that vacant housing be verified by a family member or relative at least 3 times a week
  • After a certain period of time. (For example: six months) an insurance company can decide whether to continue coverage on a vacant house.

the insurance companies can decide not to provide coverage if you do not take the necessary steps to protect your home. If you have questions, ask your broker!

April 28 e , Canadians observe the National Day of Mourning. This day commemorates workers killed, injured or have suffered from some type of disease due to work-related hazards. From 1993 to 2013, over 18,000 people lost their lives due to work-related causes; This number represents more than two deaths per day.

In Ottawa, the flag will fly at half-mast on Parliament Hill.

The following poem was written in memory of Rolyn Sumlak, who died October 9, 190

Someone - Dennis Mikalsen

Someone died the other day

An accident they say

boom went and hit the line

doctors are came, but not in time

How could happen, we look and say

We practice safety every day

We mourn with the family and make our best

to help each other through this test

suddenly emerged from hidden forts

inspectors punish and make reports

Where were they before the day

a safety hazard took a life away

in the rush late

Do it now or you can wait

but the important work

one priority, we can do if we run

need more training, which is "OK"

but he can wait another day

What's New? The unhappy staff all will go well

When we hear staff

important, it is not a safety game

This was the line before the budget

reduce your workload is not what we meant

When we reduced the staff by ten percent

more we realized more needs

Building empires is really fun

do your work and really care

more you have the better I portez-

the death of our brother was tragic and erroneous

But he supported and our memories will be cherished and long

with his death, our brother remains something to do

The torch has been passed to me and you

Why do I need tenant insurance?

Why do I need tenant insurance? - SetRatioSize640640-Apartment-2

If you rent a house, apartment, condo or perhaps even just a room, you might want to consider getting an insurance cover tenants . Depending on your lifestyle and what you have accumulated, you may not think that there is value in such coverage. And maybe you do not have a lot of expensive things, but imagine having to replace your furniture, clothing and computer all in one shot

But here are some other things to consider :?

  • Your homeowners insurance does not cover your personal belongings such as furniture, electronics, jewelry and sports equipment, etc., in case they are lost or damaged in damage fire, theft or water
  • If you cause damage to your property owners (whether accidentally or not) you are responsible for the cost of the fix. For example: you have a party in your apartment, too many people and show your toilet overflows causing damage to the unit below. You may be held financially responsible for costs to repair damage resulting from this.
  • Also if you are on the lease you may be held legally responsible, even if a guest at your rental home causes the damage.
  • tenant insurance protects you against the cost of damages you may accidentally cause others. For example: you throw another party in your rental and travel guest on a floor mat, even if it was accidental your guest can potentially sue you for damages
  • The cost to replace items damage can far exceed. the cost of renter's insurance. Consider this: the average policy is as little as $ 15 / month in Alberta while the cost to replace the goods in an average one-bedroom apartment is over $ 20,000
  • If you have car insurance , you may qualify multi policy discounts that could make your tenants actually free policy (ask your broker!)

There are two basic areas that renters insurance covers

  • responsibility (protects tenants if they or their guest (s) damaged the property owners)
  • cover contents (refers to the replacement / repair of the lost or damaged property )

If you plan tenants insurance, here are some features to talk with your broker:

  • liability coverage
  • additional living expenses
  • replacement cost
  • theft / vandalism
  • duty
  • provided coverage items (eg jewelry)

As always - before signing on the dotted line, you have your insurance broker to review the whole policy. If there are sections you are not clear or cause confusion, you are your broker to explain again. It is important to ask questions when you do not understand (sometimes insurance professionals are caught in the gibberish and forget that everyone knows insurance!)

At relatively low cost, the renters insurance can not only offer protection but also peace of mind.

How to secure your Wi-Fi?

How to secure your Wi-Fi? - SetRatioSize640640-Wifi-Icon

"Claiming that you do not care about privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you do not care about freedom of expression because you have nothing to say "-Edward Snowden

We all look cyber security from different angles, such as those planning to bypass security measures. A big misconception is that we ourselves or "big brother" to protect obtain our personal information. The truth is, we give willingly with our knowledge to do it every time we say "I agree" or "I agree" to the software that we install, the websites that we are members, and implicitly when we participate in the vast playground that is science and technology. There are simply not avoid. the misfortune of this difficult battle that we protect the bad threats. everything we touch and everywhere we go with our computers or phones leaves a fingerprint behind to fight against this, people have turned to proxy services that may have heard on the news such as TOR -.. the Onion Router and the Web Deep

Big Brother, the government and organizations can get your information through the most basic forms of personal safety, we often give that allow us to be so easily compromise on the digital frontier. As new technology emerges, it is natural to turn to the most frightening aspects of the danger, and ask themselves "Is this a new way to be exposed?". The much greater threat are large organizations that collect our personal data are those who leave the biggest holes in personal security, ourselves. We are our own biggest threat of cyber.

We all know it is good to lock our house Wi-Fi, but how many times have we lock the phone or computer? How many people reading this right now with a phone that has Wi-Fi service on and not connected to a network, or even at any time every day? Did you know that while your Wi-Fi is turned on but not connected your device is transmitted in the clear list of all networks that he "remembered"?

A non-connected wireless end, such as your phone, make a list from top to bottom and starting right at the top again. Everything that happens is a wireless version of shouting "hey, ! Are you there?". And someone has to do is to have a computer that echo the information back to the end of a Wi-Fi saying, "yes, it's me. Let the connection. "Thus the spoof pirate was born.

What can we do to prevent such a simple feat? Well, other than to turn your Wi-Fi disabled on PCs and phones when you do not use it there are phones out there that have what is called the "conscience of location". This means that the phone will use GPS services to determine an area that you know has Wi-Fi, such as home or office. This way, your device will switch Wi-Fi or off so it will never be in an area where it will be posted to connect. Such a simple feature, protects the largest hole in the security of the personal network. Now, the common argument that we can hear when this suggestion is why I made a point about Big Brother watching.

"If I leave my phone to use location services people can look where I am!". The funny thing about this argument is that you allow is for you to see where you are. Your position will still be available to those interested as long as you are connected to a tower or the Internet. However, while using this service, we are so skeptical about, we can prevent those who mean to collect more than our age, gender, where we shop etc ... Those who would like that information can the obtain, or already have. The idea is to stop those who would collect your mail passwords, banking information online and things that can be exploited just by watching 30 minutes of internet traffic.

This does not mean that one causes outweighs the other. It's just that the belief that the goal is to stop large organizations to collect information with our personal awareness of cyber battle is lost without a much larger social reform, which may come one day. But until then let's not forget about the little guys.

If you travel during the holiday season, you'll want to read this - holiday season

baggage - check. Travel Insurance - check. Dog-sitter -. Check

What about your home insurance

'Tis the season for a winter getaway ?! You and family traveling to the sunny beaches of Cancun or staying with dear Agnes grandmum Canmore - many of us spend a few days or weeks away from our usual home for the winter holidays. Of course, before leaving for the trip, you make sure that your travel insurance papers are in order, someone's dog sitting your furry friend, and your friendly neighbor collect your mail. With all these efforts, we hope he has not forgotten something, maybe a toothbrush at worst.

However, many of us have forgotten or completely ignore this trip during the winter holidays can mean to our existing home insurance policy - and its guarantees. Or more precisely when coverage is available and when it is not.

refers

Winter holidays usually to cold Canadian winters that we all love or fear. So many industries, including the insurance industry refer to this as the "heating season". This term is referenced in almost all standard homeowners insurance policies with reference to a potential risk of damage of water. Plumbing pipes and bursting of the "usual heating season" (also known as a typical Canadian winter), is not unknown.

According to March 1, 2014 Press Release (http://www.avivacanada.com/article~~number=plural / media-release-Mar-25-2014) by one of the largest insurers Canadian owners: Aviva insurance Company Canada, claims for water damage (including all types insured) accounted for 51% of all property losses for the previous year claims of insurers.

as such, the water damage caused by frozen pipes and plumbing during "normal heating" system is considered preventable. Although there is a cover for this risk in the most comprehensive homeowners policy - strictly indicated in virtually all policies under its insurance policies to limit coverage in this typical formulation:

water damage ...

but we (insurance company) does not insure loss or damage, I. caused by frost during the usual heating season
1. in a heated part of your home if you (the policyholder) have been away from your premises for more than __ consecutive days, but you will always be assured if you took one of following precautions:

  • had your home protected by a controlled heating alarm that is connected to a station providing a 24 hour service to ensure that the heating is maintained,
  • arranged for a competent person to come into your home every day ___ while you were away to ensure that the heating was continued, or
  • cut off the water supply and had drained all the pipes and domestic water containers;

2. in an unheated part of your home;

All insurance companies describe extensively in the policies they offer you their policyholders. The first pages are so-called "declarations page" - this is what most people are familiar with. It describes the name, address, the built boundary of the policyholder and various other covers and limits to discuss between you and your broker / agent. The rest of the policy (usually a few dozen pages worth) insurance agreements and legal requirements. These agreements ensure discuss the insured objects, and dangers exclusions- including when a risk is covered and under what circumstances (as described above).

Many political list four (4) consecutive days away from the premises, but some can be as little as 2. Another point of discussion is that we should be far from that given time, the most policies require a "competent person" to enter and ensure the housing is to be sufficiently heated or undamaged every day -. while some may allow all two or three days

It is important to observe and examine all parts of a policy, but when you leave the household during the "heating season of habit, "as many of us do for the winter holidays - it is essential to consider this part of the policy to ensure that self, as the insured, shall take all precautionary measures to ensure water damage covers the policy will not be canceled while you are away for the winter holidays

.

So what does this mean for you?

First, as lessee, if one of the above information is unclear or unknown track your broker or agent to help clarify and understand this vital coverage and any limitations under your policy owner before leaving for the winter holidays.

then, take these precautions during the time away from home to help avoid some stress and preventable situation claim water damage due the gel, and other potential claims.

Bon voyage and happy holiday

January is the month "Intersection Safety" for a reason - intersection

The Alberta Transportation, Bureau of Road Safety focuses on intersection safety for January (and for good reason.)

Do you stop at every stop sign you meet? Not just a side glance off and roll through, but a true judgment. Often we hear the drivers say. "Well, every time I'm here, there's nobody around, so this time, it is normal not to stop, not" Unfortunately, this type of complacency we showed how deadly point, it can be.

  • In Alberta, in 2013, three of the top five stocks of inappropriate driver for drivers frequently identified in the crash victims made a left turn on the way to an on-coming vehicle ( 12.9%), to commit a violation of stop sign (7.8%), and disobeying a traffic signal (7.2%).
  • In Canada, 28% of deaths and 40% of serious injury collisions involved an intersection.
  • In Canada, more than half of all intersection fatalities and nearly three quarters of serious injuries occur in urban areas.
  • Do not yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk carries a fine of $ 575 plus four demerit points.

There are several key communicators, including vehicle operators can use to keep other drivers and pedestrians safely.

  1. always look in all directions before moving into or through an intersection, and be prepared for the unexpected.
  2. Scan in the distance from the roadway, beyond the intersection to determine the circulation flow rate and if the next emergency vehicles.
  3. Check what human trafficking is, or about to enter the crosswalk area.
  4. always lead to defense and remain alert.

for pedestrians, there are also some ways to help your own safety and mitigate potential dangers before crossing the street or entering an intersection.

  1. always make eye contact with the driver before entering the crosswalk or start to cross.
  2. always remain in signs and pedestrian traffic lights.
  3. Remove distractions such as headphones, so you can hear what is happening around you, especially when in or around a corner.

Intersections are busy and can be very dangerous. Pedestrians, cyclists and vehicle drivers must be vigilant at intersections and avoid distractions, such as electronic devices, headphones and cell phones. It is imperative that we stop at all stop signs. Failure to stop at a stop sign result in a fine of $ 287 and three demerit points. At the stop sign, drivers must come to a complete stop, meaning that the wheels of the vehicle must not be moving. This complete stop gives the driver the opportunity to watch for traffic coming the other way, pedestrians and / or cyclists. AND in rural Alberta, this traffic might be children or quad riders.

If everyone paid more attention around, obeying signs and signals, we could reduce the number of incidents, accidents and death in our intersections in Alberta. We will all help Alberta Transportation, Bureau of road safety with their goal of bringing awareness to security intersection

What do you know about frivolous lawsuits?

What do you know about frivolous lawsuits? - SetRatioSize300300-Man-Searching-Computer

When considering your personal responsibility (part of the policy / condo owner an owner / tenant) or commercial liability, it is important to remember it covers beyond the scenario "typical" responsibility as a slip and fall. One of the most important aspects to liability insurance in Canada is that the courts, at the provincial and federal level, have long argued that the insurance companies have a duty to defend their insured against liability lawsuits, even if such combinations may be unfounded or frivolous.

under our legal system, anyone can sue anyone else for any amount, for any reason, at any time. The only thing required is for the applicant to go to the courthouse, certain documents and pay a few hundred dollars in filing fees. No matter how ridiculous a suit may seem like the NFL continue for nearly $ 89 billion on a controversial call, the court clerk does not have the ability to assess the case and so the only option is to put the case in the judicial system.

Unfortunately for the hapless defendant facing a frivolous lawsuit, each action requires some type of defense, otherwise the applicant will be able to obtain a default judgment and be able to begin the process of seizure and financial recovery. This can lead to significant legal costs, confusion and difficulty to get the decision reversed. It is important to always respond to any action.

Fortunately, your insurance and liability insurance you may have with them will be able to help. In many recent cases (like Tedford v. TD Insurance Meloche Monnex), Canadian courts have held that if there is even a small chance that a trial is to be something that would be covered by the police, insurer must fully fund without a chargeback protection to the policyholder, even if it is ultimately found that the judgment is not covered by the policy wording.

So, if you are faced with a lawsuit, it is probably a good idea to tell your broker and the insurer so you can get everything processed in a cost effective and efficient way

Why not volunteer? - SetRatioSize640640-Holding-Letters-Volunteers

Volunteerism is the fabric of the community. According to Statistics Canada, the number of volunteers is growing faster than the population of Canada! Almost 13.3 million Canadians volunteer each year. This group of people has made more than "2.07 billion hours in volunteer activities :. A workload is equivalent to just under 1.1 million full-time jobs" However, only about 10% of the population accounted for 53% of the work - what does that mean? We need more people volunteer in the community.

So why should you (or your organization) consider volunteering?

  • There is an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the community
  • Meeting new people and make new connections
  • learn new social skills
  • Become more engaged and self-conscious
  • Build team spirit
  • do a good job

Often, the reason for not volunteering is a lack of time. The good news is that there are opportunities out there for every type of volunteering. Are you into sports? Coach of a team. Do you enjoy writing? Take a minute to board. More on the story? Spend an afternoon at a care facility

Many of our employees are involved in various volunteer activities, on their own and Rogers

Here are some places you find our volunteers: ..

  • Hull services - insurance Rogers charity of choice
  • WICC
  • Habitat for humanity
  • Calgary Stampede
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Seba Beach Fire Department
  • race at L'Arche
  • The Charity golf tournament Sinclair
  • food bank
  • Relay for life

If you're not sure where you can volunteer, a good place to start is to check what options are available across the organization you work, or through your local volunteer organization as volunteer Calgary.

many organizations rely on the work of volunteers and you could have a huge impact!

It is important to know that just because you have home insurance, your jewelry are not covered automatically. It is best to call your broker to discuss issues and you need to program them.

If you go forward, some insurance companies require an assessment, while some do not. Often the store where you bought your jewelry will offer free assessments. Remember that the most important thing about an evaluation is to provide accurate documentation and accurate replacement values.

In addition, some insurance companies have global coverage available for purchase. Remember that all the elements that are valuable to customers should be discussed with the broker to ensure that in the event of a loss, they are not under insured. Also - when the item is expected, it is normally a deductible that must be paid

Over time, the value of jewelry and gems can fluctuate .. To jewellry, an outdated assessment could mean that you could be insured for less than the replacement value. This could mean a significant financial loss and perhaps sentimental. All companies have limits or maximum amounts they pay for jewelry, most of them are between 6-10k. In the end to make sure you are jewellry is adequately covered, talk to your dealer.

A year after the floods in Alberta - alberta floods

The June 11, 2013, Fort McMurray has declared a state of emergency of the river breeched its banks Hanging Pierre and orders of evacuation took effect. For the next eight days, Albertans held their breath as flood warnings were downgraded and the waters began declining. But on June 19, heavy rains began to fall over the southern Alberta; the Bow and Elbow rivers showed no signs of slowing.

On June 20, the state of emergency was declared and evacuation orders began to Calgary, Canmore and High River, the Siksika First Nation, nine municipalities, including the City of Lethbridge ; the towns of Black Diamond, Cochrane, Sundre and Turner Valley; the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass; Rocky View County; and the Municipal Districts of Bighorn No. 8 Pincher Creek No. 9 and Foothills No. 31. On June 21, the City of Medicine Hat has also declared a state of emergency and braced for flooding; followed by the City of Red Deer and a dozen other communities, including several First Nations communities

The 2013 floods devastated the province of Alberta to a degree never experienced before. the provincial government has described as the worst in Alberta history. Over 100,000 Albertans have been displaced in the region with total damage estimated at $ 5 billion. Unfortunately, some of the displaced also faced devastating blows that came through insurance companies refuse to pay claims. It appeared as if they were tasteless on what they would cover; a neighbor in the street completely covered, while another three doors down would not. The media broadcast residents of the affected areas naming and shaming the insurance companies, so that some later reversed their decisions.

Ultimately, as a house of insurance brokerage, we wanted to shed light on how our customers have fared a year later and what the industry is like today ' hui. There were occasions when some of our customers were initially denied coverage, but we intervened on their behalf with success. For an insider's perspective, we discussed with the Vice President, Austen Lillies, who works with business customers and vice president, Lena Tityk working with our personal customer

Commercial Insurance Lillies with Austen :.

commercial point of view, the number of reported claims and the amount of damage was initially overwhelming, but our customers and insurers pulled together to get through. Now, a year after the floods, we are happy to share that most companies insured for flood-related losses have been resolved. We continue to work on more complex claims, but the majority were settled and closed with the approval of the customer.

In terms of changes in the future of commercial insurance, the industry has had to review and adjust the guidelines or underwriting principles as a result of the flooding. It is perhaps not surprising that we expect restrictive rules deployment because the number of applications. However, most insurers have been reasonable with their modified terms.

cover

Flood was generally very cheap and made lower deductibles. We now see the flood rate being charged on the basis of "Flood Zone Mapping", and / or loss of the previous year. The majority of changes with coverage against flooding comes with increased deductibles and a cap on the size of the loss. It is now common to see flood franchises to a minimum of $ 25,000 per claim up to $ 500,000 per claim. Loss limits are usually a percentage of the total insured limit, however, limit the amounts of losses are generally sufficient for exposure. The franchise has increased in some cases ($ 100,000 +) are difficult for business customers to accept, but the consensus is that it is much better than not having one available flood coverage.

Some insurers are taking a very hard and do not offer coverage or very limited quantities online. This is usually done by location. In these circumstances, it is important that your broker works with several insurers to find the best solution for you. In some cases, we had to find autonomous flood policies. However, we want that commercial companies are also aware that some insurers offer such coverage has changed the wording in their policies that floods resulting Overland flooding is excluded; pay particular attention to the terms of the policy.

The companies that have invested in flood mitigation efforts must ensure that their broker is aware of the plans and efforts made with the intention of preventing or reducing the efforts of flooding. Ex .: back flow preventers drains, sump pumps, emergency power systems, bypass equipment and water-resistant reconstruction techniques can help you get coverage against flooding at reasonable conditions
personal insurance with Lena Tityk:

Availability, affordability and sustainability are all areas of concern for insurance companies in Canada. At Rogers, we processed 450 applications for flood and now a year later, 94% are resolved. Now, looking to the future for home insurance is available and sustainable from the perspective of the company, the insurance companies have to increase premiums. This is directly related to the rising costs of disasters across the country. They also began limiting coverage to respect the water, wind, hail to ensure they remain viable on the market.

That said, consumers can expect premiums will continue to rise over the next five years. Personal lines customers will also see an increase in duty rates

Example increased rates :.

• Average increase 20% on homes without claims
• Home with multiple demands increase in premiums up to 55% - 60%

Keep in mind that n is not only a bad year that affects the change in premiums or coverage. Some examples of disasters affecting the markets:

  • 2013 Alberta floods: + $ 6 billion ($ 1.7 billion insured)
  • 2012 Calgary hail, windstorms: 552 million $
  • 2011 Slave Lake fire: $ 700 million
  • 2010 Calgary hailstorm: $ 400 million
  • 05 Alberta floods: $ 400 million
  • 1998 Que.-Ont.-N. B. Ice Storm: $ 5.4 billion
  • 1997 Man. flood: $ 3.5 billion

Changes offers for personal lines are similar to commercial insurance, in that the formulations are changed, deductibles are high, they limit coverage and in some cases, no coverage is provided depending on where the house and / or the risk is situated regardless of mitigating the insured prepared. (Ex. Installing sump pumps and back water valves.)

As always, if you have questions or concerns about insurance policies against floods, please do not hesitate to contact our experts!

Your at- organization (enough) / Insurance Crime Fidelity? - crime

Over the last 5 years, 35% of private companies in Canada reported a loss due to crime in the workplace, such as employee theft , vandalism or counterfeiting; Theft was the most common type of loss suffered by those companies. Experts estimate that 96% of all companies will experience some type of employee theft without recognizing how the potential of their organization is reduced as a result of these activities.

Every company, whatever its size, is a potential target for white collar crime. the employee fraud is a fact of business life, even in the best-run organizations, and it can be expensive; employee theft causes companies to lose billions of dollars each year. Even if your company performs background projections, the separation of financial duties, educates employees on how to detect fraud or uses electronic fraud detection systems, it may still be vulnerable.

What Fidelity / Crime Insurance?

coverage Fidelity / Crime is a form of insurance that protects businesses against the loss of money, securities or stocks resulting from the crime. common insurance claims Fidelity / Crime allege employee dishonesty, embezzlement, forgery, theft, burglary safe, computer fraud, wire transfer fraud, counterfeiting and other criminal acts. These schemes involve all possible angles, taking advantage of any potential weakness in financial controls of your business. Liabilities hedged for Fidelity / Crime insurance fall into two main categories, although many policies combine the two types of coverage:

  • cover money and pay interests for the money and securities taken break and enter, robbery, theft, disappearance and destruction.
  • Employee Dishonesty coverage pays for losses caused by the most dishonest acts of employees, such as embezzlement and theft.

because of constant evolution and creative criminal element, there are other forms of insurance coverage Fidelity / Crime that can be added to your policy as extensions or amendments. These latest coverage can be modified for operations or specific requirements of your organization.

Why does your organization need Fidelity / Crime Insurance?

  • the workplace fraud is commonplace, and your business can be victimized by anyone - even the employee "trusted". Any employer would like to believe that their employees are honest, hardworking and loyal. The sad truth is, these losses occur with alarming regularity. Most employees have discovered and convicted of embezzling really believed they were simply "borrowing" and intended to pay the money ... or so they thought. The reality is that the combination of need and opportunity can make seemingly honest employees are turning to crime.
    • 80% of the workplace crime is carried out by employees.
    • One in four has committed or witnessed fraud or abuse in the workplace.
    • One in four said committing fraud against their employer has been with the company for over 10 years.
    • Only one in three of those who have witnessed a crime in the workplace will report.
  • a system of fraud could go undetected for years and could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars or more. It is difficult to absorb this kind of financial impact without feeling dramatic effects, even devastating. According to the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), the average company in North America loses 6% of its total annual revenue losses involving employees - averaging between $ 9- $ 12 per day per employee. For an organization with 40 employees, with 250 working days in a year, that amount to $ 0,000 (conservative) off its bottom line.
  • Small businesses are often more vulnerable to fraud because they can financial controls or lack of inventory that large companies usually employ. So take the above point and add the theft and burglary, where small operations are particularly likely to be victims, losing at least 20 times more than big companies. In fact, shoplifting, theft and burglary have such a disproportionate pressure on small businesses as much disintegrate as a result.

Most insurance policies exclude or provide only nominal amounts ($ 5,000 or $ 10,000 limits) Fidelity / coverage of crime. We strongly recommend you to talk to your insurance broker to confirm your limits and guarantees

In one of those situations where you are disturbing the soil to dig, you must call Alberta One-Call Corporation for a line locate service. The service is free and they usually only need a notice of 2 working days to schedule a time to come to you.

With so many underground utilities today, there is an exhibition to hit and damage any number of buried lines such as water, sewage, oil, gas, cable TV, optical fiber, electrical telephone lines, etc. hitting one of these lines can range from the loss of an essential service for you or your neighbors in serious injury or death. What you need to know about secondary suites and your home insurance - secondary suite

secondary suites are a controversial topic in Calgary for a while now. In the city, there are thousands of legal and illegal suites in detached

common requirements for secondary suites :.

  • minimum ceiling height of 1.95m
  • Every room in the secondary suite must have at least one emergency exit window in case of fire
  • must provide separation between smoke a secondary suite and main living unit.
  • fire alarms must be interconnected secondary suite and main living unit
  • fired furnaces and gas water heater must be locked in a room with half-inch drywall
  • secondary suites must be served by a heating system and independent ventilation

another requirement add us to the list :.

  • Let your insurer of your secondary result

Whether your secondary suite is legal or illegal, it is important to your insurer. There is a common misconception that a policy will cover a suite but it does not. If an owner fails to leave the insurer after they open to significant risks and the possibility that in the event of a claim, the insurance company may deny coverage and cancel the policy of existing insurance.

For example: family did not tell their insurance company that they have occupied a secondary suite. Tenants of the following secondary accidentally cause a fire that destroyed the entire house

In this situation, the insurance company can deny coverage completely

eg .. Family B said their insurance company that their house has a busy secondary suite. Tenants of the following secondary accidentally causing a fire that destroyed the house.

In this situation, historically, the insurance company will follow with a blanket. This is not the concern of the insurance company if the suite was legal or illegal, they should be aware of its existence.

It is also advisable that owners have an insurance clause in a contract with the tenants. This means that the tenant must have adequate insurance if they are renting a secondary suite. An owner must make his / her due diligence to ensure that renters insurance is updated. Another way to protect your home and secondary suite by purchasing full rental insurance that can cover vandalism and damage caused by tenants.

What is the process for setting up life insurance - life insurance

People choose a life insurance usually a reason: security. Whether to protect family and loved ones, leave a legacy or cover debts, more Canadians than ever are buying life insurance to increase their financial security. Buying life insurance can be made by phone or in person. But as a broker, we prefer face-to-face because we believe it gives us a chance to really understand our customers and more thorough in our gathering. We are flexible with our time; we know that everyone can not make an appointment during the work day, so we make ourselves available for meetings outside of office hours. In fact, to make life easier for our customers, we will usually visit them instead of them to visit our offices

This is how the process usually works :.

  1. First meeting
  2. quote Put together
  3. Please fill out the application
  4. Deliver the hand policy

It begins with an initial meeting. This is where we collect information on the client. We want to know the facts so that we can associate the cover properly. We take down the medical information and lifestyle and we also talk about revenue. Each client is provided a comprehensive assessment of the recommended insurance based on the information we have gathered. It is our duty to consult our clients and provide the necessary information to make their informed decision.

ecigarettes meme Once we passed the stage of gathering information, the next step is to turn to the customer. That's where we look at the products available and assessing what would be the best solution for the customer, based on all the information gathered. We make sure that you understand what you can expect to pay for your life insurance based on your current status. Keep in mind that what you pay for life insurance is largely based on the following:

  1. Age
  2. health
  3. Smoking *

once our client decided on a product of life insurance, we begin the application process. The application usually takes 60 minutes to complete, and we do it face-to-face. In some cases, if we can not meet our customers face-to-face (eg. They are out of town or traveling), we can do it via Skype. There are also medical requirements that we will order to the customer. A nurse will go out samples (for example:.. Blood and urine) From there, the request is sent to the insurance company. Underwriting can last from two days to six months, it really depends on the support and coverage.

When the subscription is made, the broker is notified and the policy is delivered to the customer in person. Moving forward, any changes to the policy can be done by the broker (but an individual may also deal with the insurance company directly, but you may want to simply let your broker.)

Remember, the length of time it takes to complete the entire process is based on the client - they actually drive the speed we will
