[Live Google Hangout] Scaling the Self-Tracking Movement: How can technology health outcomes Wearable impact

wearables hangout now that more than a third of American adults own a mobile device, what's next? How can we use self-generated data to improve health outcomes for ourselves but also for our communities? Join MHA @ GW and a panel of multidisciplinary experts on Tuesday, August 11th from 1: 30-2: 30 pm EST to live event broadcast on Hangouts on the future of mobile technology as it relates to health

Among other things, we'll talk about ways in which mobile devices are currently used. socio-economic barriers to portable use and access; and what needs to change for these devices to help translate the movement of individual self-monitoring in something that could improve the health of the population.

About the panelists

Pierre Vigilance, MD, MPH, associate dean for practice teacher and public health associated Milken global health School of public health Institute at George Washington University [MODERATOR]

Pierre Vigilance a leader in the practice of public health, management and education, Dr. Pierre vigilance has over 20 years experience in the health and well-being, including a decade in the public sector, most recently as director of the district of Columbia Department of health. In July 2013, he became the associate dean for practice and associate professor of global health at the School Milken Institute of Public Health at George Washington University where he teaches and mentor students, develops relationships to expand the network of the practice of public health and the social impact of the school partners, develops the possibilities of interdisciplinary projects, and advises health partners of people both at home and abroad.

from London, England with Caribbean roots "Dr.V" is a passionate fan of football, love cooking, music, design, and travel. In his late 20s, and sometimes out of breath at 5'9 "and 248lbs, he made a decision to improve his health. A combination of important dietary improvements and a training regimen that includes CrossFit, race, swimming, cycling, yoga (and far too many burpees) helped maintain a weight loss of 70lb, and provide countless clothing donations to local charities. "My ongoing food fight," he says, " but I continue to learn ways to maintain a better balance. "

Blair Palmer, Innovation Lab Lead UNICEF

Blair Palmer Palmer is currently part of UNICEF innovation where she serves laboratory head for San Francisco. UNICEF Innovation is an interdisciplinary team of people responsible for identifying, prototyping and scaling technologies and practices that reinforce the work of UNICEF. Previously, she worked to advance mobile health technology as a director at Medic Mobile, conducted research on infectious diseases at the University of California at San Francisco and the Institute for OneWorld Health, and led efforts responsibility for improving access to health care in the world while serving as lead manager of the HIV / AIDS treatment and care for Levi Strauss & Co. She also worked as Director of public Affairs at Gilead Sciences. For his work, Dell Computers has recently appointed Palmer # Inspire100 its list of world changers in entrepreneurship, philanthropy, education and media who use technology to empower and inspire others. She graduated from Vanderbilt University, and holds a Masters in Public Health from Yale University, where she was nominated for a Fulbright scholarship.

Jacqueline Fellows, senior editor at HealthLeaders media

His weekly column on physician leadership focuses on the particular problems faced by doctors in hospitals, health systems and group practices. Autumn Saxton-Ross, PhD, program director in the National Health Collaboration Equity (NCHE)

Autumn Saxton-Ross Autumn Saxton -Ross, PhD, is a resident of the district of Columbia and is currently the director of initiatives tailored program in the middle for the National Collective for health equity. A graduate in sociology, health education and exercise science, its research, its academic and professional interests are in the social and physical environment and their influence on health behaviors, especially in black and urban populations, as well the health benefits of parks and green spaces. The work of life is to improve the health of communities through commitment, activity, education, exposure and opportunity, really believe that a healthy life is best lived outside .

Teresa Wang, research and rock in Manager Energy Strategy

Teresa Wang Wang directs research efforts at the Health rock - a fund boot full service that supports the start of digital healthcare. Before joining Rock Health, she worked at Goldman Sachs as Banking Investment Analyst covering nonprofit health systems. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in the life sciences Vagelos management program and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Economics with a concentration in management and health care policy.

This panel was not designed to arrive at conclusive answers but rather to generate a reflective discussion surrounding the intersection of the technology, data and health as it exists outside the individual user.
