Rogers Insurance is proud support the work of our charity of choice, Hull services. Yesterday we were proud to join Hull Services staff and supporters to celebrate the imminent construction of the work experience and the expansion of life skills Centre in William Roper Hull School (Hull School).
One of the main Hull school goals is to prepare students for life as contributing, productive adults when they graduate. Unfortunately, many arrive in Hull lack the life skills necessary to lay the foundation for a healthy future. At the school in Hull, many essential skills are part of the program, including how to shop for and cook healthy meals, how to budget and how to dress for a job interview. To offer this program more effective and have more impact students, an addition of 2,000 square feet - work experience and Life Skills Centre - will open in 2015.
An expanded work experience and Life skills program will ensure that every student leaving grade 12 has the skills to take care of themselves to their greater capacity. The program will focus on personal care, resume writing, job search techniques, interview preparation, and time and money management. Teachers will reinforce the importance of staying in a job, be punctual, well maintained and socially appropriate because they provide ongoing support to students in internships.
The work experience and the Centre Life Skills have a positive impact on the next generation of young adults. In the long term, students of junior and senior secondary schools in Hull will build a solid foundation to make informed choices wise for themselves and their own families. This will lead to stronger and healthier future generations.
