Strokes are the main cause of disability in adults in the US according to the National Stroke Association. In technical terms, a stroke or TIA (transient ischemic attack or "mini stroke) is caused by a lack of blood flow to the brain. The blood carries oxygen, which is what keeps brain cells healthy. When these cells are deprived of oxygen, they wither and die. A stroke can affect memory and contribute to decrease muscle control.
